HCB Hospitals introduces online medical care with Dutch technology

First hospital in Spain to use Webcamconsult telemedicine

After market research, HCB Hospitales (Hospital Clínica Benidorm) has chosen Dutch company Webcamconsult to implement digital healthcare at the hospital. Doctors use online tools to communicate with patients from different countries. The Spanish hospital specialises in treating both local and international patients. Due to the geographical distance, it is very important for both the patient and the doctor to have a flexible choice in the type of consultation.

For example, an online medical consultation can be used for an exploratory and/or screening conversation, while a face-to-face consultation is still necessary for a physical examination.

Arthur Lievaart of HCB Hospitals: "HCB Hospitals is an international private hospital, located in the region of Marina Alta and Marina Baja, where many foreigners of different nationalities live or spend the winter. Patients travel especially from the Netherlands and other countries to the hospital for operations and rehabilitation, a phenomenon known as medical tourism. The collaboration with Webcamconsult aims to attract foreign patients through e-medicine tools that enable both admission and follow-up, where real-time translation is possible for doctor-patient communication."

First Spanish hospital to use Dutch e-Health technology

Recently, the clinic Centro Medico Alfaz started using the services of Webcamconsult. Now follows the first Spanish hospital, HCB Hospitales, which will also use the services of the Dutch e-health company. Webcamconsult CEO Bert van Gerwen on the collaboration: "Just as other sectors use technology to improve their services, the healthcare sector is increasingly opting for solutions that meet patients' wishes. We already work with many hospitals in the Netherlands, and we are proud that Spain is also starting to adopt the technology offered by our company. For us, both the doctor and the patient are central, which is why we keep webcam consultations as accessible as possible, without sacrificing options. One example of this is real-time translation. HCB has a lot of international patients, and it is important that there is clear communication with the doctor."

The HCB webcam consultation is a very important tool for us.

Pilot project: Collaboration between HCB Hospitals and Webcamconsult

The pilot project at HCB has been implemented in collaboration with Webcamconsult. This project aims to share experiences and knowledge about online care with other hospitals in Spain. It is an initiative that offers other hospitals the opportunity to learn about the implementation and results of online health services at HCB Hospitals.

Objective of the project:

  • To share experiences and knowledge about online healthcare.
  • To provide information to other hospitals about the benefits and challenges of telemedicine.
  • To encourage the adoption of telehealth services in the Spanish healthcare sector.

"We have linked the Webcamconsult application to our EPD, so we don't need to change systems. Our aim is to use webcam consultations in all our outpatient clinics in various locations. Doctors also have the option to offer a consultation from another location via their laptop," says Arthur Lievaart of HCB Hospitales.

Hospitals in Spain that would like to know more about this pilot project or are interested in the experiences and results of the project can contact HCB Hospitales or Webcamconsult.
This pilot project represents an important step towards the digitalisation of healthcare in Spain and provides a valuable source of information for hospitals that are considering implementing online health services.
