The corona crisis has meant that screen-based care has made huge strides in terms of acceptance and implementation among both practitioners and patients. Due to the ongoing pressure on care and unpredictable corona measures, many healthcare organisations have switched to providing hybrid care. This involves supporting patients both in person and via video consultation. As of now, this is possible even if practitioner and patient do not speak each other's language.

This involves supporting patients both in person and via video consultation. From now on, this is also possible when practitioner and patient do not speak each other's language. 

It becomes easy to understand each other
With the help of 'speech to text' technology, a translation capability is provided, which is particularly intended when patients speak a different language than the practitioner. Subtitles can also be easily deployed for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Via built-in software, it is possible to translate spoken audio in real time. This function can be activated by the doctor via a button on the taskbar in the virtual consulting room (online). The patient's spoken words and sentences are then visible to the practitioner as subtitles on the screen and vice versa. It is also possible to follow the entire conversation in a text box. As a result, language is no longer a barrier to communication between practitioner and patient.

Video consultations can be translated into 64 different languages in real time. Whereby the algorithm of the translation module is continuously improved. 
Bert van Gerwen, CEO Webcamconsult:  "We clearly see that the market needs this. In Amsterdam alone, there are 170 nationalities and not all of them speak the same language. Moreover, we want to provide care worldwide with our cloud service. With this, we facilitate that a patient from Canada or Ghana is helped by a doctor from France, for example, or vice versa."

Real-time translation of video consultations will be available to customers of Webcamconsult in early March.
